IDEAS

  • Create a new book cover using Comic Life

  • A to Z Book for the novel. 26 sentences—A-Z—that "capture" the book and its characters, themes, plot, lessons to be learned, etc. - Illustrated! Bonus for good use of vocabulary words. - Use Comic Life, or a wikispace

  • Make a complete family tree for each of the stories main characters - use Inspiration

  • Video a scene from the play

  • Create a theme song for The Pigman. Perform it or tape it. - Possibly use Audacity on PC or Garageband on Mac

  • Write a story about what John and Lorraine will be doing in the next 10 years - this can be a collaborative project using Google Docs

  • Have students create a website dedicated to the book, focusing on themes, characters, symbols and activities

  • Research about wolves and present the information in a Prezi to the class

  • Develop and film a movie trailer for the novel

  • Film a public service announcement about the preservation of wolves, using examples from the story to help you

  • Create a Popplet of the themes seen in the novel as a class

  • Skype with a biologist, conservation officer, ecologist or another scientist (possibly one who knows about wolves) to make connections with the novel and have students come up with questions to ask them

  • Create a new book cover for the novel using Comic Life

  • Have each student find 5 websites about wolves that are informational and have them say why they think so, and share it with the class

  • Write a blog post/diary from Mowat's perspective as he went into the Arctic

  • Using Inspiration, create a timeline of the events in the novel

  • Pretend you are a travel agent and plan an Eco-Adventure to Canada's North. Design either a poster (Comic Life) or a brochure (MS Publisher) for this trip or use Glogster to create an interactive poster

  • Write up a job posting advertising for a biologist to replace Mowat. Make sure to include a job description and what the government's expectations are for the replacement. Then have your classmates prepare a fictitious resume and covering letter to respond to the posting
